LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Andre T. Mitchell upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by the King of Kings Foundation
Inc. on June 7, 2014

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Andre T. Mitchell has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Andre T. Mitc-
hell upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the
King of Kings Foundation Inc., to be celebrated at its Black Tie Awards
Gala on Saturday, June 7, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Andre T. Mitchell, a grass-roots community activist, was born
and raised in what was once known as two of Brooklyn's most impoverished
and dangerous neighborhoods, East New York and Brownsville; and
WHEREAS, At a young age, Andre T. Mitchell made the decision to dedi-
cate his life and energy to transform the minds of the people in his
community, and in 2004, he founded Man Up! Inc., a non-profit organiza-
tion where he is currently serving as Executive Director; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Andre T. Mitchell, Man Up!
Inc. services thousands of families throughout New York City by way of
cultural afterschool and summer programs, mentoring and leadership
development, services for the formerly incarcerated, career/job develop-
ment, as well as community/school watch programs; and
WHEREAS, Andre T. Mitchell has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Through his hard work and commitment, Andre T. Mitchell has
earned countless achievements such as Family Development Credentials,
Certification as a Gang Specialist through the Office of Juvenile
Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and an appointment to the New York
City Council's Anti-Gun Violence Task Force; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Andre T. Mitchell was voted as the new Chairman
of Community Board 5, the governing board for East New York, Cypress
Hills, and Spring Creek, which is the community where Man Up! Inc. is
based; and
WHEREAS, An aspiring author, Andre T. Mitchell is writing a handbook
and motivational guide entitled, I AM A MANN; his goal is to be an
inspiration to those who have traveled on the same turbulent path, and
provide direction to those who are trying to avoid it; and
WHEREAS, A transformative leader of his community, Andre T. Mitchell
is a true example of how perseverance coupled with vision and consisten-
cy, leads to progress and success; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Andre T. Mitchell has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Andre T. Mitchell has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Andre T. Mitchell upon the occasion of his designation for special

recognition by the King of Kings Foundation Inc. on June 7, 2014; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Andre T. Mitchell.
