LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Zacharey Johnson upon the occasion of
his designation as 2014 Person of the Year by the CYO-Troy Youth Associ-
ation, Inc.

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Zacharey Johnson has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Zacharey John-
son upon the occasion of his designation as 2014 Person of the Year by
the CYO-Troy Youth Association, Inc. to be celebrated at its 10th Annual
William J. Pascarell Person of the Year Celebration on Thursday, June 5,
2014, at the Italian Community Center in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born on March 16, 1998, in Saratoga Springs, New York,
Zacharey Johnson, affectionately known as Zack, lived in Ballston Spa
until moving to Troy at the age of seven; and
WHEREAS, An exceptional honor student, athlete and community leader,
Zacharey Johnson has overcome many obstacles and challenges in his young
life; he is committed to his team, he is a role model, exhibits good
sportsmanship, is the first one to encourage his team members on and off
the court, and is the first to reach out to other opponents to offer
support; and
WHEREAS, Zacharey Johnson began playing sports at the age of four,
when he played flag football for Ballston Spa Pop Warner, and took on
the role of a leader by earning the position of quarterback; from this
point on, he not only began to show leadership qualities, but excelled
in the leadership role in all areas of his life; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Zacharey Johnson excelled in football and
basketball and began to play on various teams in the Capital Region; he
played youth basketball for St. Jude's in 3rd grade, and then turned to
CYO-Troy Youth Organization Program from 4th grade on; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious middle and high school athletic
career, Zacharey Johnson played modified basketball for Troy Middle
School, and played corner and wide receiver for Troy High School Junior
Varsity Football where they went undefeated in the 2013 season, winning
the Superbowl; and
WHEREAS, The last three years, Zacharey Johnson has played with The
Troy Cougar's AAU Basketball Program, and assists on other area teams
such as The Raptors and Anaconda; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Zacharey Johnson is training for a quarterback
position on the Varsity Football Team at Troy High School for this
upcoming 2014 season; and
WHEREAS, Zacharey Johnson has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, He has assisted less fortunate families with delivering meals
at the holidays, brought Christmas gifts for families in need, and has
brought stuffed animals to the children in the hospital at St. Mary's
Pediatric Unit in Troy; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Zacharey Johnson has volunteered with The Troy
CYO Challenger Basketball Program, Capital District Pop Warner Challen-
ger Football Program, North Colonie Pop Warner, and The Troy CYO Basket-
ball Programs; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Zacharey Johnson became the first JDRF Youth Ambas-
sador in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund in the North East, raising

awareness of this disease and raising a significant amount of funds for
research with his "Team Getting Zack Back on Track"; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Zacharey Johnson has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Zacharey Johnson has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Zacharey Johnson upon the occasion of his designation as 2014
Person of the Year by the CYO-Troy Youth Association, Inc.; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Zacharey Johnson.
