LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Commission on the Public Health
System upon the occasion of hosting its 2014 Public Health Awards

WHEREAS, Organizations which serve the interests of the people of this
Empire State merit the commendation of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the Commission
on the Public Health System upon the occasion of hosting its 2014 Public
Health Awards held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, in New York, New York;
and
WHEREAS, The Commission on the Public Health System (CPHS) is a city-
wide, community-based membership health advocacy organization committed
to ensuring that the voices of medically underserved communities are
heard; and
WHEREAS, Since 1991, this esteemed organization has been an advocate
for the public health and hospital system, as well as a strong supporter
of community organizing; and
WHEREAS, Today, CPHS continues to serve the interests of the people of
the Empire State by working for greater access to health care services
for everyone, particularly in low-income, medically underserved, immi-
grant and communities of color; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Commission on the Public Health System upon the occasion of
holding its 2014 Public Health Awards; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Commission on the Public Health System.
