LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Friends of Raynham Hall upon the
occasion of celebrating the 60th Anniversary of its incorporation

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the efforts
of those organizations which seek to bring recognition to historical
places within the State of New York, and in doing so, help to ensure
that the complete history of our State and Nation is preserved and
shared with present generations of citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
The Friends of Raynham Hall upon the occasion of celebrating the 60th
Anniversary of its incorporation on Sunday, June, 1, 2014, in Oyster
Bay, New York; and
WHEREAS, A time capsule of Long Island life in the 18th and 19th
centuries, Raynham Hall Museum brings to life the history of the nearly
300-year-old Townsend family home, and the important role it played
during the American Revolution as home to George Washington's secret
agent Robert Townsend; and
WHEREAS, The Raynham Hall Museum has many programs and exhibits which
highlight both the home's contributions to American life and the many
changes it has experienced reflecting our country's evolution; and
WHEREAS, Incorporated in 1953, The Friends of Raynham Hall is a non-
profit organization dedicated to the preservation and operation of Rayn-
ham Hall Museum in partnership with the Town of Oyster Bay; it proudly
serves the community through enhancing visitors knowledge of Colonial
Life, Slavery, and the Victorian Era; and
WHEREAS, The Friends of Raynham Hall welcomes thousands of students
each year on class field trips to the museum; its costumed educators
offer group tours on various historical subjects including the Revolu-
tionary War, Civil War, and Victorian Life; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed organization is committed to historical preser-
vation and partners with other civic groups to make its community a more
vital place; and
WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out its mission, The Friends of
Raynham Hall has demonstrated the value of its continuing mission to
preserve this remarkable place; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for The Friends of Raynham Hall, and for
all of the individuals who have worked to bring proper attention to a
place and time which merits recognition in the grand panorama of the
history of our State and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Friends of Raynham Hall upon the occasion of celebrating the
60th Anniversary of its incorporation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the The Friends of Raynham Hall.
