LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Strong National Museum of Play
Library upon the occasion of being named Honorable Mention in the 2014
Rochester Regional Library Council's Public Library of the Year contest

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across the great State
of New York is reflective of certain exemplary institutions whose
purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the needs of its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Strong
National Museum of Play Library upon the occasion of being named Honor-
able Mention in the 2014 Rochester Regional Library Council's Public
Library of the Year contest by the Rochester Regional Library Council;
this auspicious occasion will be celebrated on Thursday, June 5, 2014,
at the Casa Larga in Fairport, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Rochester Regional Library Council (RRLC) is a multi-type
library network serving libraries and library systems in the five-county
Rochester region of Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Wayne and Wyoming coun-
ties; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the RRLC recognizes outstanding libraries who have
provided exceptional service to their communities; and
WHEREAS, The Strong National Museum of Play is the only collections-
based museum in the world devoted solely to the act of play; it blends
the best features of both history museums and children's museums to
provide an exciting, welcoming place to play, learn, and dream; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable institution's multitude of offerings include:
fun-filled educational programs, hands-on exhibits, fascinating displays
of artifacts of play, and a wonderful library; and
WHEREAS, The Strong National Museum of Play Library plays an integral
role in helping the museum provide a place for patrons to discover the
past and imagine the future, and to rekindle old memories and make new
ones; and
WHEREAS, In cooperation with the Rochester Public Library System, this
innovative library has made reading books a large part of the museum
experience; while touring exhibits, museum visitors can borrow books on
topics of interest, which can then be returned to any outside library in
the system; and
WHEREAS, The Strong National Museum of Play Library has become an
important resource for encouraging children to read, learn, and grow;
its unique approach extends the concepts and ideas learned from a museum
visit, while helping children's reading abilities grow naturally; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when an insti-
tution of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our atten-
tion, it should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Strong National Museum of Play Library upon the occasion of
being named Honorable Mention in the 2014 Rochester Regional Library
Council's Public Library of the Year contest; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Strong National Museum of Play Library.
