LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Firefighter William Heins, Jr. upon
the occasion of his designation for special recognition after 52 years
of dedicated service to the Monticello Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Firefighter William
Heins, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
after 52 years of dedicated service to the Monticello Fire Department
which was celebrated at its 66th Annual Spring Dinner Dance on Saturday,
May 10, 2014, at Mr. Willy's Restaurant in Monticello, New York; and
WHEREAS, For over 135 years, the Monticello Fire Department has proud-
ly served the Village of Monticello and the Town of Thompson in Sullivan
County, New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition to handling over an average of 1,000 calls per
year, the Monticello Fire Department responds to all life-threatening
medical calls within its district; they provide the highest level of
fire protection, fire safety education, and emergency medical service to
its community, while also striving for improved productivity and cost
effective use of its resources; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter William Heins, Jr. is honored to continue a long
tradition of protecting his community, and is dedicated to providing the
highest level of service; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; William
Heins, Jr. is such a firefighter; throughout 52 years of devoted
service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter William Heins, Jr. for 52 years of distinguished
service to the Monticello Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Firefighter William Heins, Jr.
