LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Wheatley High School student Lauren
Perry upon the occasion of being named a semi-finalist in the 2014
United States Presidential Scholar program

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Lauren Perry upon the occasion of being named a semi-finalist in the
2014 United States Presidential Scholar program; and
WHEREAS, Now in its 50th year, the United States Presidential Scholar
program was established by executive order of the President, to recog-
nize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high
school seniors; scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic
and artistic achievements, strong character, and involvement in communi-
ty and school activities; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Wheatley High School, Lauren Perry was named one
of 565 semifinalists in the 2014 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program; she
was selected from more than 4,000 candidates on the basis of her excep-
tional academic achievements and outstanding contributions to her commu-
nity; and
WHEREAS, Lauren Perry has distinguished herself as a young woman of
superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing standards of
excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life, and responsibility
rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for her classmates, Lauren Perry
has brought honor to her family, school, and community by achieving this
prestigious honor; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers, coaches and
parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Wheatley High School student Lauren Perry upon the occasion of
being named a semi-finalist in the 2014 United States Presidential Scho-
lar program, and to wish her continued success in her future endeavors;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lauren Perry.
