LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating June C. Motl upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Born June 25, 1914, June C. Motl will celebrate this momen-
tous occasion with a Family Party on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Mr.
Willy's, Monticello, New York; and
WHEREAS, June C. Motl grew up in Watkins Glen, New York, and went to
Cortland State Teachers College where she majored in Physical Education;
she came to Monticello in 1934, as the first woman to teach girls phys-
ical education in the Monticello School District; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, June C. Motl married Edwin G. Motl on June 28, 1938, in St.
Peter's Church in Monticello, New York; she took a hiatus from teaching
when her first child was born on her birthday in 1940; and
WHEREAS, After having five more children, June C. Motl returned to
teaching as a substitute teacher for the next 20 years; she received a
universal subbing license from New York State, and covered classes in
all disciplines in the Monticello High School; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, An avid reader, June C. Motl was a member of the Board of
Directors of Monticello's Crawford Library where she was instrumental in
its change from a private to a public system; in addition, she was a
member of the Catholic Daughters, and is actively involved in the parish
of St. Peter's Church in Monticello; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her late husband, with her throughout have
been her six children, Emil, Matthew, Mary Jane, JT, Doris, and the late
Phillip, as well as four grandchildren, Karen, Veronica, Phillip and
Eddie, and four great-grandchildren, Anna, Abby, Brady and Louie, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate June C. Motl upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to June C. Motl.
