LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending WRVO Public Media upon the occasion of
winning the 2014 regional Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio Tele-
vision Digital News Association
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious documentarians and journalistic entities which have
diligently and consistently recorded the history of their communities
and served to enhance the stature of this great Empire Stale; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
WRVO Public Media upon the occasion of winning the 2014 regional Edward
R. Murrow Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association; and
WHEREAS, Since 1971, the Radio Television Digital News Association has
honored outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the
Edward R. Murrow Award; recipients of this prestigious award exemplify
the spirit of excellence which Edward R. Murrow set as a standard for
the profession of electronic journalism; and
WHEREAS, WRVO Public Media is non-profit public radio service licensed
to the State University of New York and based at SUNY Oswego; the
multi-station network serves more than 15 counties of Central and North-
ern New York from transmitters in Clayton, Oswego, Syracuse, Utica and
Watertown, as well as many smaller communities; and
WHEREAS, WRVO is being honored with the 2014 regional Edward R.
Murrow Award in recognition of its documentary "New York in the World";
and
WHEREAS, "New York in the World" chronicles the lives of New York
State residents and their various responses to globalization; the film
shares the stories of union workers in Buffalo, fashion designers in New
York City and farmers in the Finger Lakes, all talking about finding a
place amid the current economic realities; and
WHEREAS, Globalization has greatly affected the Empire State, and the
film seeks to share a wide range of experiences among its citizens; and
WHEREAS, WRVO was invited to produce "New York in the World" by the
late Garrick Utley, one of the most distinguished international journal-
ists of his era; a moderator on the television show "Meet the Press",
and SUNY Oswego senior fellow and professor of broadcasting and journal-
ism; he commissioned the research which was the basis of the film, and
was an important collaborator, as well as narrator on the project; and
WHEREAS, The award-winning documentary was produced by nationally-re-
cognized public radio reporter and contributor to WRVO, Sidsel Over-
gaard, senior producer Mark Lavonier and Catherine Loper, WRVO director
of news and public affairs; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when media
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor WRVO Public Media upon the occasion of winning the 2014 regional
Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio Television Digital News Associ-
ation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to WRVO Public Media.
