LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Tharakaram Ravishankar upon the
occasion of his designation as 2014 Father of the Year by the Father's
Day Council of Long Island and the American Diabetes Association
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Tharakaram Ravishankar upon the occasion of his designation as 2014
Father of the Year by the Father's Day Council of Long Island and the
American Diabetes Association; he will be celebrated at the Awards
Dinner on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Oheka Castle, Huntington, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Tharakaram Ravishankar has been in private practice for
the past 30 years in the field of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabol-
ism; he is Chief of Endocrinology at Glen Cove Hospital, and Medical
Director of the Glen Cove Center for Rehabilitation, as well as a
consulting physician at St. Francis Hospital and North Shore Hospital-
Manhasset; and
WHEREAS, This committed man has been actively involved with the Ameri-
can Diabetes Association for many years, serving in various capacities;
he is a Past President of the Long Island Chapter, and served on the
Board of Directors of the New York State affiliate; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Tharakaram Ravishankar was a pioneer in developing hospi-
tal-based diabetes education programs in Long Island over 25 years ago;
his long-term involvement in diabetic education has empowered people
with diabetes to better manage their lives; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Tharakaram Ravishankar has been called upon to contribute
his time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, He has served as a member of the Board of Trustees in the
Herricks Public School District, and is currently a member in the Board
at the Shelter Rock Public Library; in addition, he was involved in the
Ethnic Coalition in the Town of North Hempstead; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Kala Ravishankar,
their son, Shreyas Ravishankar, and two grandsons, Raam and Augustya,
all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Tharakaram Ravishankar has
displayed throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend those individ-
uals for the edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Tharakaram Ravishankar upon the occasion of his designation as
2014 Father of the Year by the Father's Day Council of Long Island and
the American Diabetes Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Tharakaram Ravishankar.
