LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement
Award by the Flatbush Development Corporation
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm has given not only of his time
and energies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Flatbush Development
Corporation which was celebrated at its 39th Annual Awards Benefit on
Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Gargiulo's Restaurant in Coney Island, Brook-
lyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Flatbush Development Corporation's mission is to enhance
the quality of life for all segments of the Flatbush community; it iden-
tifies and responds to neighborhood needs and concerns, proactively
creating programs and campaigns that work towards a healthy, safe and
vibrant community; its economic development, housing, youth, and immi-
gration programs serve the exceptionally diverse needs of its community;
and
WHEREAS, Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm, Senior Pastor of Flatbush
Reformed Church, was born in the Borough of Brooklyn in Park Slope; he
grew up in the Bay Ridge Section of Brooklyn, receiving his early educa-
tion in the Brooklyn Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, A kind, caring, and warm individual always willing to help
others, Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm's childhood experiences prepared and
groomed him for his work in human services and the priesthood; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm received his bachelor's degree
from Wagner College in Staten Island, and also graduated from North Park
Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree; and
WHEREAS, After his ordination in 1971, Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm
served in many churches in New Jersey, Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn;
he first came to the Flatbush community in 1988, and in April of 1989,
he accepted the position to serve as Minister-in-charge of the Flatbush
Dutch Reformed Church and the people of the Flatbush community; and
WHEREAS, Chosen by his peers to serve as President of the Classis of
Brooklyn, Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm was President of the Brooklyn
Council of Churches, and Chair of the Regional Synod of New York Human
Support Committee; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure at the Flatbush Reformed Church, Reverend
Daniel Detlef Ramm became affiliated with some of the nonprofit organ-
izations in the neighborhood; he served as Vice Chair of CAP, and Vice
Chair of the Board of Directors of CAMBA; and
WHEREAS, For his hard work and dedication, CAMBA honored Reverend
Daniel Detlef Ramm by naming a 53 unit apartment building in his honor;
and
WHEREAS, Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm has received numerous awards and
accolades from other organizations for his commitment and devotion to
better the community that he serves; and
WHEREAS, For 25 years, Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm has faithfully
served the church and this community; during his pastorship at the Flat-
bush Dutch Reformed Church, he formed friendships with many members of
his congregation; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm has been called upon to contrib-
ute his time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
has always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm has
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his three children, Linnea,
David, and Daniel, and his two grandchildren, Annika and Jake, as well
as his friend Rosemary, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his
life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm has
displayed throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Flatbush Develop-
ment Corporation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Reverend Daniel Detlef Ramm.
