LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mary Kay and Bill Seery upon the occa-
sion of their designation as recipients of the Neighborhood Service
Award by the Flatbush Development Corporation

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Mary Kay and Bill Seery have given not only of their time and
energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently have been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mary
Kay and Bill Seery upon the occasion of their designation as recipients
of the Neighborhood Service Award by the Flatbush Development Corpo-
ration which was celebrated at its 39th Annual Awards Benefit on Thurs-
day, May 8, 2014, at Gargiulo's Restaurant in Coney Island, Brooklyn,
New York; and
WHEREAS, The Flatbush Development Corporation's mission is to enhance
the quality of life for all segments of the Flatbush community; it iden-
tifies and responds to neighborhood needs and concerns, proactively
creating programs and campaigns that work towards a healthy, safe and
vibrant community; its economic development, housing, youth, and immi-
gration programs serve the exceptionally diverse needs of its community;
and
WHEREAS, Mary Kay and Bill Seery of Prospect Park South moved into
their home in the early summer of 1998, when they fell in love with
Victorian Flatbush and its stately homes; one of their favorite things
about the neighborhood is the small town feel in the center of New York
City; additionally, it is a neighborhood where people look out for each
other and socialize with each other; and
WHEREAS, Mary Kay Seery works as a Legislative Aide, and has spent 20
years in the magazine publishing world, both as a copywriter for Hearst
and Conde Nast, and as a freelance copywriter; and
WHEREAS, For five years, Mary Kay Seery was the Parent Coordinator at
PS 217 before going to work as a Legislative Aide two years ago; she
holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Virgi-
nia; and
WHEREAS, Bill Seery is a commercial lending officer at Valley National
Bank focused on new business origination in the tri-state area; his past
occupations include commercial lending, investment banking, CFO of a
family owned private manufacturing company, and CFO of a publicly traded
sports marketing and events company; and
WHEREAS, Bill Seery earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from
the University of Virginia, and a Master of Business Administration
degree from the Darden School of Business Administration at University
of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Mary Kay and Bill Seery have been very active over the more
than 15 years they have lived in the neighborhood; Mary Kay served as a
past Parents Association President at PS 217, and they both have hosted
various fundraising functions and neighborhood parties at their home, as
well as hosting the annual Halloween Parade in Prospect Park South for
many years; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Bill Seery has been on the Board of PPSA, having
served in the past as Treasurer and President, and was on the Board of
FDC for several years; and
WHEREAS, Both Mary Kay and Bill Seery are well known in Victorian
Flatbush as approachable and helpful; they choose to be involved in the

health and vitality of their local schools and community, and keeping
their neighborhood safe, attractive, fun, and Landmark compliant, as
well as working toward enhancing the quality of life for all Flatbush
residents through strong public schools, communities and neighborhoods;
and
WHEREAS, Mary Kay and Bill Seery have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Mary Kay and Bill Seery have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Together, Mary Kay and Bill Seery have raised 3 children, all
of whom feel privileged to be a part of their lives and rejoice in their
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Mary Kay and Bill Seery have displayed
throughout their life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mary Kay and Bill Seery upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Neighborhood Service Award by the Flatbush Development
Corporation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mary Kay and Bill Seery.
