LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Edgemont High School junior Morgan Rappe
for her outstanding efforts in support of military service men and women
through her Students Supporting Our Military program
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing tradition, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Edgemont High School junior Morgan Rappe for her outstanding efforts in
support of military service men and women through her Students Support-
ing Our Military program; and
WHEREAS, Morgan Rappe has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Morgan Rappe is the founder of Students Supporting Our Mili-
tary (SSOM), a program she developed after being inspired by her brother
Michael Rappe's military service in Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, Displaying a passionate commitment to supporting members of
the United States armed forces at home and abroad, Morgan Rappe worked
closely with teachers and administrators at Edgemont High School to show
her school's appreciation for our troop's many sacrifices; and
WHEREAS, Under Morgan Rappe's leadership, SSOM organizes fundraisers,
care packages, and letters in gratitude to those who have served so
bravely; she has worked with national level organizations including the
Wounded Warriors Project and Project HEAL, as well as organized club
visits to local veterans hospitals; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Morgan Rappe has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of service members which this remarkable young woman
has displayed; and
WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
Morgan Rappe represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Edgemont High School junior Morgan Rappe for her outstanding
efforts in support of military service men and women through her
Students Supporting Our Military program; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Morgan Rappe.
