LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dick Boschen upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Neighborhood Service Award by the Flat-
bush Development Corporation
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dick Boschen has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dick
Boschen upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Neigh-
borhood Service Award by the Flatbush Development Corporation which was
celebrated at its 39th Annual Awards Benefit on Thursday, May 8, 2014,
at Gargiulo's Restaurant in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born in 1954 in Morristown, New Jersey, Dick Boschen gradu-
ated from Tenafly High School in 1972; he continued his education at
Hampshire College, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from MIT in
1976, and a Master of Architecture degree from UC Berkeley in 1982; and
WHEREAS, For the last 28 years, Dick Boschen has been an architect
practicing in New York City; currently, he is his firm's managing prin-
cipal; and
WHEREAS, After completing college, Dick Boschen moved to Manhattan,
Park Slope, and then happily to Ditmas Park; he and his wife moved into
their home in Victorian Flatbush sixteen years ago with their two chil-
dren; the couple was initially attracted to the area by the great hous-
ing and stable neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Dick Boschen has been engaged in a broad range of architec-
tural projects for private, commercial and institutional clients; over
the years, his firm and its principals have demonstrated competence in a
broad range of design-related fields, winning awards for energy conser-
vation research and exhibition booth design, as well as being published
for more traditional architectural design work; and
WHEREAS, Although his work has been based in New York City, Dick
Boschen has completed occasional projects in Canada and throughout the
United States; his past experience includes a variety of clients includ-
ing: New York State's Facilities Development Corporation, the Atlantic
Mutual Insurance Company, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, as
well as a number of private and smaller-scale commercial clients; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dick Boschen's design-related experience
includes the United States Department of Energy funded research into
energy use in high-rise office buildings, and large- and small-scale
residential structures; this experience has produced numerous articles
in juried scientific publications, participation in AFFORDABLE HOUSING
THROUGH ENERGY CONSERVATION and the PASSIVE SOLAR CONSTRUCTION HANDBOOK,
and participation on the team that designed the Energy Conservation
Standard for new Military Residential Construction; and
WHEREAS, Since 1999, Dick Boschen has been an active member of the
Ditmas Park Neighborhood Association, including serving as a past Presi-
dent, and has often helped around the neighborhood; furthermore, he is a
New York City Citizen Tree Pruner; and
WHEREAS, Dick Boschen would like to commend his fellow neighbors and
community members who also devote their time and energies to their
community; and
WHEREAS, Dick Boschen has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dick Boschen has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 27 years, Barbara,
and their two chlidren, Rachel and Matthew, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dick Boschen has displayed through-
out his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dick Boschen upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Neighborhood Service Award by the Flatbush Development Corporation;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dick Boschen.
