LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lawrence T. Gilroy III upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the 2014 Michael Cianfrocco Family
Humanitarian of the Year Award by the American Red Cross of the Mohawk
Valley on June 4, 2014
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Lawrence T. Gilroy III upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2014 Michael Cianfrocco Family Humanitarian of the Year Award by
the American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley, to be celebrated at its
15th Annual Real Heroes Breakfast on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at the
SUNY IT Field House, Utica, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Michael Cianfrocco Family Humanitarian of the Year Award
is presented annually to a person who exemplifies the humanitarian spir-
it of the Mohawk Valley through his or her positive contributions to the
community; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence T. Gilroy III is President of Gilroy, Kernan &
Gilroy (GKG) Inc., a Risk Management, Insurance, and Employee Benefit
firm located in Central New York since 1904; and
WHEREAS, Earning a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Hamilton
College in 1982, Lawrence T. Gilroy III spent three years in New York
City after graduation before returning to Upstate New York to purchase
the insurance agency founded by his grandfather; five years later, he
merged the E.F. & J.S. Kernan Insurance Agency with Gilroy Insurance to
form Gilroy, Kernan & Gilroy Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence T. Gilroy III focuses on strategic leadership of the
agency, overseeing its recent expansion into the areas of risk manage-
ment, employee benefits, and financial services; specializing in manu-
facturing, construction, healthcare, education, and other accounts,
Gilroy, Kernan & Gilroy has been recognized as one of the top 40 compa-
nies to work for in New York State; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Lawrence T. Gilroy III, the
GKG team has been recognized by Reagan Consulting and the Independent
Insurance Agents and Brokers of America as a Best Practices Agency since
2007; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Gilroy, Kernan & Gilroy has been recognized by
the American Heart Association as a Fit and Friendly Workplace at the
highest Platinum level, as well as by the Business Council of New York,
the New York State Human Resource Society and Best Companies, Inc., as
the 2010 No. 1 Best Company to Work for in New York State; and
WHEREAS, Active within his community, Lawrence T. Gilroy III currently
serves as Chair of the Utica College Board of Trustees, and as a member
of the Executive Committee at Mohawk Valley EDGE; he is on the Boiler-
maker Road Race committee, and on the Advisory Board of the Masonic
Medical Research Lab; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he serves his alma mater as a member of its
Alumni Council, while also serving on the boards of Mohawk Valley
Network & Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare, as well as the United Way of the
Valley & the Greater Utica Area; he has also served as co-Chair of the
Regional Economic Development Council for the Mohawk Valley Region since
August of 2011; and
WHEREAS, Subsequently, Lawrence T. Gilroy III is the proud recipient
of the 2008 Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce John T. O'Toole Award,
recognizing his unprecedented service to the community; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Elizabeth, and their
three sons, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lawrence T. Gilroy III upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2014 Michael Cianfrocco Family Humanitarian of the Year
Award by the American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lawrence T. Gilroy III.
