LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Reverend Father Peter A. Pomposello
upon the occasion of being commissioned as a Military Chaplain in the
United States Army Chaplain Corps
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Reverend
Father Peter A. Pomposello upon the occasion of being commissioned as a
Military Chaplain in the United States Army Chaplain Corps; and
WHEREAS, The Pastor of Holy Cross Church, Bronx, New York, Reverend
Father Peter A. Pomposello will leave his pastorship to begin his new
ministry on June 24, 2014; a Farewell Celebration to honor his many
years of service to his parish will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2014,
following a special Mass to celebrate this most hallowed intention; and
WHEREAS, Father Peter A. Pomposello has been the Pastor at Holy Cross
Roman Catholic Church since May 2008, responsible for the administration
and maintenance of five parish church and school buildings, supervising
and leading 35 staff and faculty, and tending to the spiritual needs and
well-being of more than 2,000 families in the parish, as well as 392
students of Holy Cross Parish School; and
WHEREAS, He has brought to his ministry an overwhelming spirit of
charity and compassion, acting from vision and enlightenment in conduct-
ing his administrative and spiritual duties, while always displaying the
highest standards of personal and professional integrity and dedication;
and
WHEREAS, Father Peter A. Pomposello earned a Bachelor of Science in
Journalism and Technical Writing from New York University School of
Engineering in 1991, and completed his religious training some years
later, receiving in 2003 a Master of Divinity from St. Joseph's Seminary
as well as a Bachelor of Sacred Theology from Angelicum Pontificia Univ-
ersita in Rome, and earning a Master of Arts in Sacred Theology from St.
Joseph's Seminary in 2004; and
WHEREAS, From March 1992 to June 1997, Father Peter A. Pomposello was
a teacher for the New York City Board of Education; he began his career
as a member of the clergy in May 2004 as Parochial Vicar at Saints John
and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Larchmont, New York; after two years
he became the Parochial Vicar at St. Elizabeth's Roman Catholic Church
in Manhattan, New York, leaving in 2008 to begin his illustrious tenure
at Holy Cross Parish; and
WHEREAS, Answering the call to serve those who serve, Father Peter A.
Pomposello will, as a Military Chaplain, offer religious services, coun-
seling, and moral support to individuals in the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has also served his country in
the military; he was commissioned in the United States Army (Reserve)
Infantry as Second Lieutenant in 1991, promoted to First Lieutenant in
1993, and became a Captain in 1999; and
WHEREAS, Father Peter A. Pomposello has always given enlightenment,
guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and has adminis-
tered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal needs of
all; he will surely carry on this tradition of unfailing spiritual
stewardship in his new role as Military Chaplain; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Reverend Father Peter A. Pomposello upon the occasion of being
commissioned as a Military Chaplain in the United States Army Chaplain
Corps, noting his unremitting and compassionate faith and his exemplary
service to God, humanity, his community, and his Nation, and extending
to him the heartfelt best wishes of this Legislative Body for a future
of purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Reverend Father Peter A. Pomposello.
