LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Healthy Cafe Catering Company upon the
occasion of its designation as recipient of the 2014 Ally of the Year
Award by the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly recognize those businesses within the State of New York which
have positively impacted their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Healthy Cafe Catering Company upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the 2014 Ally of the Year Award by the Gay, Lesbian &
Straight Education Network to be celebrated at its 16th Anniversary Gala
Celebration, A Breakfast at Tiffany's GLSEN Formal Affair, on Friday,
June 13, 2014, at the Washington Park Lake House, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1990, the Gay, Lesbian & Straight
Education Network (GLSEN) has worked to assure that each member of every
school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orien-
tation, gender identity, or gender expression; as a local chapter, GLSEN
focuses its efforts on the youth and educators of the eight counties
surrounding the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, GLSEN of the New York Capital Region was founded by educators
in the Capital Region nearly 20 years ago, when they saw the need to
create safe spaces for LGBTQA Youth; this local group became officially
part of The Gay Lesbian & Straight Education Network nationally, late in
1997 and was accredited as the New York Capital Region Chapter in 1998;
and
WHEREAS, Healthy Cafe Catering Company, an Albany, New York based
business, is being honored with this auspicious award for their unwaver-
ing support of GLSEN's Safe Schools Advocacy Work in these eight coun-
ties of the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the definition of Ally is to join a group or
person to give or get support; the Healthy Cafe Catering Company, under
the luminous direction of Betsy Manware, epitomizes this, as they have
given GLSEN support in both the best and worst of times throughout the
past 16 years; and
WHEREAS, Small Businesses such as the Healthy Cafe Catering Company
exert a strong, positive influence on the communities they serve and are
a crucial element in the economy of New York State; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and businesses of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be celebrated by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Healthy Cafe Catering Company upon the occasion of its designation
as recipient of the 2014 Ally of the Year Award by the Gay, Lesbian &
Straight Education Network; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Betsy Manware, Healthy Cafe Catering Company, Albany, New
York.
