LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Willa Skinner upon the occasion of her
retirement after 50 years of distinguished service as Town Historian to
the Town of Fishkill

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Willa Skinner upon the occasion of her retirement after 50 years of
distinguished service as Town Historian to the Town of Fishkill, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Willa Skinner was originally appointed as Town Historian in
1964 under the leadership of Supervisor Herbert Muller; and
WHEREAS, For nearly half a century, Willa Skinner rendered faithful,
conscientious, and valuable service to the Town of Fishkill; and
WHEREAS, Before becoming Town Historian, Willa Skinner attended New
York University in New York, New York, and graduated in 1948 with a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism; and
WHEREAS, Willa Skinner pursued a career as a freelance writer and
editor, publishing articles in ALIVE MAGAZINE, HUDSON VALLEY, GOOD READ-
ING MAGAZINE, DUTCHESS MAGAZINE, and WOMAN'S DAY from 1974 through 1990;
and
WHEREAS, She reported on local news events, including school events,
local board meetings, including the communities of the Village of Fish-
kill and the City of Beacon, publishing these articles in the WAPPINGER
FALLS SHOPPER and SOUTHERN DUTCHESS NEWS; and
WHEREAS, As Town of Fishkill Historian, Willa Skinner was an invalu-
able resource for the entire community; and
WHEREAS, During her outstanding tenure with the Town of Fishkill,
Willa Skinner earned the admiration, esteem and affection of all whose
lives she touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Willa Skinner upon the occasion of her retirement after 50 years
of distinguished service as Town Historian to the Town of Fishkill; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Willa Skinner.
