LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Dutch-
ess County Historical Society, to be celebrated on June 11, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality of
life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by its
exceptional cultural, educational and recreational institutions; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those organizations that seek to bring recognition to histor-
ical places within the State of New York, and in doing so, help to
ensure that the complete history of our State and Nation is preserved
and shared with present generations of citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concerns, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of the Dutchess County Historical Society to
be recognized by the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce on
Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel in Poughkeep-
sie, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Dutchess County Historical Society conserves the past to
educate for the future by procuring, promoting, and preserving the
history of Dutchess County; and
WHEREAS, The Historical Society is known for its publications, educa-
tional outreach, and collection of archival materials, photographs, and
objects inclusive of the entire county; and
WHEREAS, A yearly book of articles on local history has been published
annually by the Historical Society since 1914, and is the oldest contin-
uously published annual in New York State; in addition, 14 books on
local history bear the Historical Society's imprint; and
WHEREAS, :he Historical Society offers tours of the Glebe House
historic site in Poughkeepsie and rental of special history trunks
filled with objects and ideas for educational use; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for the Dutchess County Historical Socie-
ty, and for all of the individuals who have worked to preserve the
historical record of its community so that it may inscribe its place in
the grand panorama of the history of our State and Nation; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Dutchess County Historical
Society; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Dutchess County Historical Society.
