LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mary Kastner upon the occasion of her
designation as the recipient of a 2014 SUNY Chancellor's Award for
Excellence in Professional Service

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mary
Kastner, Director of Design, Print, and Mail Services in the Office of
Communication and Marketing, upon the occasion of her designation as the
recipient of a 2014 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Profes-
sional Service, to be celebrated at SUNY New Paltz's first faculty meet-
ing, and the first classified staff gathering in the fall of 2014; and
WHEREAS, Faculty and staff who receive the Chancellor's Award for
Excellence have served their students, fellow faculty and staff, campus-
es, and communities with the utmost distinction, and have demonstrated
extraordinary dedication and service to SUNY New Paltz; Mary Kastner is
one such individual; and
WHEREAS, As Director of Design, Print, and Mail Services in the Office
of Communication and Marketing at SUNY New Paltz, Mary Kastner consist-
ently exceeds the expectations of her position, demonstrating efficient
and highly productive leadership and exceptional dedication to her work,
her staff, and the institution as a whole; her colleagues have aptly
described her as a team player with an institutional view; and
WHEREAS, Despite constant deadlines and an endless stream of requests
from offices in need of publications, marketing collateral, banners,
signage and other materials, Mary Kastner approaches her work with a
calm demeanor and endless patience; she brings strong design skills and
technical expertise to her position, and her organizational skills,
attention to detail, and ability to plan and manage projects and budgets
are unmatched; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mary Kastner has frequently been invited to
serve on task forces, chair search committees, or represent professional
staff in campus-governance efforts; and
WHEREAS, In 1994, Mary Kastner's vision of a unified image for SUNY
New Paltz, and a consistent look to printed materials and public commu-
nications led to the formation of the Institutional Image Group, which
she chaired for 10 years, and through which SUNY New Paltz embarked on
the development of its first identity system; and
WHEREAS, Mary Kastner continues to play a key role in support of SUNY
New Paltz's integrated marketing and communication efforts, and she has
worked project by project, client by client, to educate the campus in
these industry best practices; and
WHEREAS, As a SUNY New Paltz alumna, Mary Kastner clearly understands
the needs of students and strives to prepare them to be productive
members of their professions and communities; for more than 30 years,
she has consistently demonstrated her unfailing commitment to her alma
mater; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of individuals such as Mary Kastner, who, by providing their
skills and talents to our schools, work to support our proud tradition
of public education; and
WHEREAS, Mary Kastner has clearly had an enduring impact on the youth
of SUNY New Paltz, as well as on the community-at-large, and accordingly

merits recognition and applause for her impressive dedication to others;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mary Kastner upon the occasion of her designation as the recipient
of a 2014 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional
Service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mary Kastner.
