LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joseph A. Marino posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest
honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joseph A.
Marino posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate, which was celebrated on Monday, June 2, 2014, at
the Albany County Honor A Veteran Ceremony at the Nathaniel Adams
Blanchard Post No. 1040 of the American Legion in Delmar, New York; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by a
resolution in 2014 and is awarded to individuals who have merited
special commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on
behalf of their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Marino passed away on November 5, 2010, at the age
of 86; and
WHEREAS, Born on August 21, 1924, Joseph A. Marino served his country
as a member of the United States Army Air Corps from April of 1943 to
February of 1946; and
WHEREAS, During his military service as an Airplane Crew Chief, Joseph
A. Marino performed inspection, maintenance adjustment, and minor
repairs on a C-47 aircraft, and worked on such parts as instruments,
landing gear, hydraulic and electrical systems on the surfaces; in addi-
tion, he warmed up engines and taxied planes; and
WHEREAS, Ranked as a Corporal, Joseph A. Marino participated in
several battles and campaigns including Ardennes, Central Europe, and
Rhineland; and
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Marino was the recipient of numerous medals and
accolades for his exceptional military service including the Victory
Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal, and the European-Af-
rican-Middle Eastern Service Medal; and
WHEREAS, After he was honorably discharged, Joseph A. Marino was
Proprietor of Veteran's Market, Furnace Operator at Titanium Metal
Corp., and worked for Albany Public Market, Saveway Markets, Food Fair
Store, and the Audit Department of New York State Department of Audit
and Control; and
WHEREAS, An active citizen in his community, Joseph A. Marino was past
commander and bingo caller at Nathaniel Adams Blanchard Post No. 1040 of
the American Legion, and chairman of the Memorial Day Parade; and
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Marino is survived by his wife, Rose, and their
four children, Diane, Carol, Lynne, and Tom, as well as four grandchil-
dren, Megan, Bryan, Sarah, and Matt, all of whom feel privileged to have
been a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Today, the bravery and willingness of Joseph A. Marino to
fight for the lives of his fellow human beings, continues to inspire,
and is deserving of the highest honor by all defenders of freedom; and
WHEREAS, Individuals such as Joseph A. Marino devoted to improving the
quality of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity and

self-worth are deserving of the highest praise and recognition; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joseph A. Marino posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Joseph A. Marino.
