LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Brooklyn Perinatal Network upon the
occasion of hosting its 25th Anniversary Symposium

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
organizations and individuals that work to serve the health care needs
of citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Brooklyn Perinatal Network upon the occasion of hosting its 25th
Anniversary Symposium, to be celebrated on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at
the Brooklyn Hospital Center, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, This 25th Anniversary Symposium provides an excellent oppor-
tunity for the Brooklyn Perinatal Network to bring greater awareness to
the health issues in regard to the prevention and reduction of infant
and maternal illness and death; and
WHEREAS, Brooklyn Perinatal Network (BPN) was established in 1988 from
a community task force to address high infant mortality; its purpose is
to prevent infant/maternal illness and death, which for several years
has been excessively high within the local community; and
WHEREAS, BPN provides at-risk residents access to vital information
including supportive health and social supportive services, as well as
in assisting families to secure public health benefits and resources
needed to maintain health; subsequently, the community has seen a
significant reduction in infant death and improved maternal and child
health status; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Ngozi Moses, Executive Direc-
tor, and Denise West, Deputy Executive Director, BPN provides medical
care, offering a wide range of primary preventative and clinical
services including pregnancy, OB/GYN care, pediatric, adolescent health
care, general family practice, and adult medicine; and
WHEREAS, In addition, specialty care in areas such as mental health,
family planning, substance abuse treatment and counseling, and HIV/AIDS
care is also offered by BPN; and
WHEREAS, Family preservation and development services give its
patients access to case management, home-based services, as well as
family and individual counseling; BPN also facilitates access to public
assistance programs such as TANF food stamps, child care, housing, job
preparation and enrollment for health insurance; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes the vital importance of the
Brooklyn Perinatal Network in providing excellence in care through
prevention, education and treatment, and its evident commitment to this
mission; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Brooklyn Perinatal Network upon the occasion of hosting its 25th
Anniversary Symposium; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Brooklyn Perinatal Network, Brooklyn, New York.
