LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Richard D. Hunt upon the occasion of his
induction into the Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame on June 8, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Richard D. Hunt upon the occasion of his induction into the Greater
Utica Sports Hall of Fame, to be celebrated on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at
the Radisson Hotel-Utica Centre, Utica, New York; and
WHEREAS, A standout athlete at New Hartford High School, Richard D.
Hunt lettered in baseball, basketball and cross country; and
WHEREAS, Awarded a full athletic scholarship to Siena College, Richard
D. Hunt served as the Captain of the baseball team, during which time he
made Career Leader Lists for complete games pitched (16) and strike outs
per 9 innings (6.88); he was also on Season Leader Lists for complete
games pitched (7) and ERA (1.54); and
WHEREAS, Richard D. Hunt later played with the Milford Macs Semi-Pro-
fessional Baseball Club, ran 23 15K Boilermakers, five marathons, and 16
sprint triathlons, including his 18th place finish at the USA Senior
Games in Palo Alto; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he won more than 300 games as the Varsity Boys
and Girls Soccer Coach at Clinton before serving 14 years as the high
school Principal; he also coached modified football and basketball, JV
baseball, and was the Hamilton College Baseball Pitching Coach for more
than two decades; and
WHEREAS, Richard D. Hunt dedicated 14 years as both the Boilermaker
15K Scholarship Chairperson and the Society of American Baseball
Research (SABR) Education Chairperson; he served as President of Youth
Baseball/Softball for 8 years; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his multiple athletic achievements, Richard D.
Hunt was truly committed to Interscholastic Athletic Service; he was the
Secretary/Treasurer of the Tri-Valley League for 18 years and was a
NYSPHSAA Principals' Representative for 11 years; he also served on the
Section III Executive Committee as well as the NYSPHSAA Cross County
Championship Committee; and
WHEREAS, Richard D. Hunt has been the recipient of numerous awards and
accolades, some of which include: NYSPHSAA Service Award, Hamilton
College Baseball Service Award, Section III Service Award and the New
York State Administrators' Association Service Award; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he was inducted into Kirkland Sports Hall of
Fame in 2011, and into Mohawk Valley Educators' Hall of Distinction in
2013; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Richard D. Hunt for
his extraordinary accomplishments which are a tribute to his skill,
dedication and commitment; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Richard D. Hunt upon the occasion of his induction into the Great-
er Utica Sports Hall of Fame on June 8, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Richard D. Hunt.
