LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Robert C. Potter, United
States Army Veteran, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Robert C. Potter of Lackawanna, New York died on Monday,
March 17, 2014, at the age of 92; and
WHEREAS, Born on May 3, 1931, Robert C. Potter was raised in Buffalo,
New York and was instilled with strong community values at an early age;
and
WHEREAS, Robert C. Potter distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, A proud servant of his community and country, Robert C.
Potter enlisted in the United States Army at 17 years of age; he bravely
served in the Korean War and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class;
and
WHEREAS, Upon his return from the Army, Robert C. Potter took his
future wife, the former Rosemary Leo, on a date and so began a romantic
relationship that culminated in their marriage for more than 60 years;
and
WHEREAS, A loving father and husband, Robert C. Potter worked as a
Diesel Mechanic at the Bethlehem Steel plant for more than three
decades; and
WHEREAS, Robert C. Potter's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the betterment of his community, Robert C.
Potter was active in local politics, serving as a Committeeman for 22
years in the City of Lackawanna; he was also the Head Custodian at Lack-
awanna City Hall for 29 years; and
WHEREAS, A man of faith, Robert C. Potter was a parishioner at Our
Lady of Victory Basilica, and relished time spent with family and
friends; he truly delighted in gardening, hunting, fishing, and being
outdoors, and is fondly remembered for taking great pleasure in vaca-
tioning at Allegany State Park with his family and golfing with his
friends; and
WHEREAS, Robert C. Potter is survived by his wife, Rosemary; two
daughters, Deborah Barnashuk and Cheryl Potter-Juda; five grandchildren;
and a great-grandchild; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Robert C. Potter leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Robert C. Potter, United States Army Veteran, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Robert C. Potter.
