LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Hyung Bin Im upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Lifetime Dedication Award by the Korean
American Parents Association on September 13, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Hyung Bin Im upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Lifetime Dedication Award by the Korean American Parents Association; he
will be honored at his 90th birthday celebration on Saturday, September
13, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Originally from Gyeong-Gi Province in the Republic of Korea,
Hyung Bin Im is a graduate of the prestigious Kyung Hee University and a
veteran of the Korean War; he immigrated to the United States in 1981;
and
WHEREAS, Since 1984, this esteemed man has devoted his life to enrich-
ing the lives of Korean American senior citizens through his work as
founding President of the Korean American Seniors Association of New
York and numerous other support organizations; and
WHEREAS, In 1993, he established the Senior Counseling Center to
provide social services, English classes, senior housing programs and
assistance in applying for US Citizenship; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Hyung Bin Im founded the Korean American Mutual
Association in 1996 for the purposes of providing monetary assistance to
families of deceased senior citizens; the organization has since grown
to include over 8,400 registered members; and
WHEREAS, With a sense of civic duty, Hyung Bin Im formed the Senior
Citizen Voters Federation of New York and established 17 local offices
in all five boroughs throughout New York City, allowing senior citizens
to participate in the Voters Registration Campaign; and
WHEREAS, His commitment to his community was further illustrated
through his establishment of the Korean American Senior Center in Flush-
ing, a place for seniors to gather to socialize with their peers; the
Center provides social services and a free lunch program on weekends, as
well as numerous recreational programs, such as aerobics classes and
dance lessons that promote healthy lifestyles; and
WHEREAS, Hyung Bin Im has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Hyung Bin Im has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Hyung Bin Im upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Lifetime Dedication Award by the Korean American Parents Associ-
ation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Hyung Bin Im.
