LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 18th Anniversary of the Jamaica
Arts and Music Summer Festival to be held August 1-2, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with its
time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those organiza-
tions which foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of cultural
diversity which strengthens the fabric of the communities of New York
State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 18th Anniversary of the Jamaica Arts and Music Summer Festival
to be held August 1-2, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Created in 1996, the Jamaica Arts and Music Summer (JAMS)
Festival is coordinated each year by the JAMS Festival Planning Commit-
tee, a partnership of Queens' cultural organizations, businesses, and
community residents who wish to celebrate the vitality and diversity of
Jamaica and the Borough; and
WHEREAS, The JAMS Festival, which highlights the multicultural fabric
of the Borough of Queens and provides a vehicle for tourism and economic
development, attracts over 185,000 residents and visitors to downtown
Jamaica; and
WHEREAS, This enjoyable event is a diverse historically significant
venue for culture, commerce and living; a true asset to society, the
JAMS Festival provides family entertainment and essential resources for
the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 18th Anniversary of the Jamaica Arts and Music Summer
Festival to be held August 1-2, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Jamaica Arts and Music Summer Festival Planning Commit-
tee.
