LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Harness Racing Museum and Hall of
Fame upon the occasion of celebrating its 2014 Hall of Fame Day on July
6, 2014, and applauding the 2014 Hall of Fame Inductees and honorees

WHEREAS, Organizations which serve the interests of the people of this
Empire State merit the commendation of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
The Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame upon the occasion of cele-
brating its 2014 Hall of Fame Day, and to applaud the 2014 Hall of Fame
Inductees and honorees; this auspicious event will be held at The
Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Goshen, New York, on Sunday,
July 6, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of its President, Lawrence S. DeVan
and Director, Janet T. Terhune, The Harness Racing Museum and Hall of
Fame is one of the sport's most visible and effective ambassadors; its
efforts put the positive, exciting activities of Harness Racing in the
spotlight and in the public eye; it is a permanent reminder of the
history and culture of America's first national pastime and is an ener-
getic cheerleader for tomorrow's good times; and
WHEREAS, The Museum is a not-for-profit, educational institution,
hosting thousands of visitors a year; they include vast numbers of
school children, who learn about America's first sport - Harness Racing
- and discover the important role it played in the development of our
country; and
WHEREAS, The Museum is a major tourist attraction and is also the
repository for the sport's memorabilia, its fine art, its driving silks,
harness, photos, books, film and video; it provides research services,
promotional campaigns, and hosts many community service organizations,
adult tour groups and children's educational programs; in addition, it
chronicles the story of the sport in exciting, informational, interac-
tive exhibits; and
WHEREAS, The sport's Hall of Fame is contained within The Harness
Racing Museum and recognizes horses and humans in three main categories:
Living Persons, Living Horses, and Immortals; and
WHEREAS, Hall of Fame Day is held annually on the first Sunday in July
at The Harness Racing Museum, and significant contributors to the sport
are honored at this event; and
WHEREAS, On Hall of Fame Day 2014, the Museum's Trustees will hold
their annual meeting in the William Haughton Memorial Hall; in addition,
first class racing will be held at Historic Track, featuring the Hall of
Fame Invitational Trot, along with an autograph session with participat-
ing Hall of Fame drivers; and
WHEREAS, This year, the Harness Racing community will honor the
following inductees: Living Hall of Fame, David Miller and William Weav-
er; Communicators' Hall of Fame, Carol Cramer and John Pawlak; and
Living Horse Hall of Fame, Donato Hanover, Precious Bunny, and Hattie,
as well as Harness Racing Immortals, Green Speed and Windsong's Legacy;
and
WHEREAS, The Harness Racing Museum's 2013 Amateur Driving Champion,
Stephen E. Oldford; Pinnacle Award recipient, Jack Elliot; and 2013
Horse of the Year, Bee a Magician, will also be officially recognized;
and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to recognize and pay tribute to The Harness Racing Museum and Hall
of Fame and its 2014 Hall of Fame Inductees and honorees; now, there-
fore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame upon the occasion of
celebrating its 2014 Hall of Fame Day, and to applaud the 2014 Hall of
Fame Inductees and honorees; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Janet T. Terhune, Director, The Harness Racing Museum and
Hall of Fame, and to the 2014 Hall of Fame Inductees and honorees.
