LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Handmade
and More on May 25, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 40th Anniversary of Handmade and More, celebrated on Sunday,
May 25, 2014, New Paltz, New York; and
WHEREAS, Handmade and More opened as "The Handmade Craft Store" in the
beautiful Hudson Valley of New Paltz at 6 North Front Street in November
of 1974, during which time the upstairs space housed a studio for dance
and exercise classes known as the Dancing Theatre; and
WHEREAS, With its emphasis on quality handcrafted items, Handmade and
More was an instant success with both locals and tourists alike; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Handmade grew by leaps and bounds and became
Handmade and More in 1985; the Clothing Department at Handmade was added
in 1987, and Handmade at Home was recently opened, featuring fine linens
and furnishings for the home, located above the main shop; and
WHEREAS, Ann Rodman ran the store successfully for more than 20 years,
handing it off to her successor Marge Mustello in 1994; current owner,
Melinda Minervini took over in 2009, and was one of Rodman's original
employees; and
WHEREAS, Handmade and More's customer service ethic is the same now as
it was in 1974, friendly service, no pressure, smiles, and lots of help
when you need it; its staff has done a masterful job of continuing to
provide a unique selection of jewelry, women's clothing, children's
clothing, and gifts; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges this exceptional business and its contributions to the local and
State economies, fully confident that it will continue to enjoy the
sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Handmade and More on May 25, 2014;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Handmade and More, New Paltz, New York.
