LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Thomp-
son House

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose purposeful
endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life for the cherished senior
citizens in their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 20th
Anniversary of the Thompson House; and
WHEREAS, The Thompson House Residential and Rehabilitative Care is
situated just behind Northern Dutchess Hospital and features medically
sophisticated services, highly personalized care, the most current ther-
apeutic equipment, and a "just like home" atmosphere; and
WHEREAS, This not-for-profit, long and short-term rehabilitation
health care center has a staff that takes pride in what they do, and are
encouraged to pursue excellence in their delivery of care; and
WHEREAS, Due to its close proximity to the hospital, the Thompson
House specializes in the care of residents with medically complex needs;
it also provides short-term rehabilitation for those who plan to return
home; and
WHEREAS, An interdisciplinary team consisting of doctors, nurses,
social workers, dietitians, physical, occupational, speech and recre-
ational therapists, develops an individualized care plan for each resi-
dent; and
WHEREAS, In addition, other ancillary services include medication
management and audiology, vision, dental and podiatric care; each resi-
dent is medically supervised by an internal medicine physician with a
special interest in its population; and
WHEREAS, For two decades, the Thompson House has offered all the amen-
ities and special touches that make it seem just like home; there are
handsomely decorated, private and semi-private rooms with large picture
windows, and spacious and comfortable rooms for family gatherings and
visits are located in quiet corners of each unit; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, table service dining, in-house laundry services
and a beauty/barber shop add to the ease and comfort of daily living;
and
WHEREAS, The Thompson House property is beautifully landscaped with
patios, a gazebo and a canopy available to residents for outdoor enjoy-
ment in summer months and for family get-togethers, parties and events;
a full range of activities and outings, religious services for all
faiths, along with flower and vegetable gardens, offer diverse recre-
ational, social and spiritual opportunities for residents; and
WHEREAS, This significant milestone is an excellent opportunity to
recognize the special contributions of the Thompson House and the dedi-
cated individuals who strive to better the quality of life for senior
citizens in the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when insti-
tutions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Thompson House; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Thompson House.
