LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring football player Khalil Mack of the
University at Buffalo, upon the occasion of his selection by the Oakland
Raiders in the NFL Draft

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those exemplary athletes who excel in professional athletics, distin-
guishing themselves through notable achievements and representing the
great Empire State with pride and determination; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
football player Khalil Mack of the University at Buffalo, upon the occa-
sion of his selection by the Oakland Raiders in the NFL Draft on May
8-10, 2014; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of both Fort Pierce Westwood High School and the
University at Buffalo where he was a football star, Khalil Mack has been
selected fifth overall by the Oakland Raiders as an outside linebacker
in the first round of the NFL Draft; and
WHEREAS, One of the most prolific pass rushers in NCAA history, Khalil
Mack has had an exceptional collegiate football career, and holds the
all-time record for most forced fumbles and most tackles for a loss; and
WHEREAS, In his senior year, this remarkable young man won the CFPA
Linebacker Trophy and was named the 2013 MAC Defensive Player of the
Year, as well as a second-team All-American by the Associated Press; and
WHEREAS, Khalil Mack's overall accomplishments are outstanding; he was
loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and the
community at large; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Khalil Mack has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor football player Khalil Mack of the University at Buffalo, upon the
occasion of his selection by the Oakland Raiders in the NFL Draft, and
to wish him the best of luck in all of his future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Khalil Mack.
