LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the
Village of Harriman
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and commem-
orate the distinguished histories of communities across this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of the Village of Harriman, in Orange Coun-
ty, New York, to be celebrated with a public Centennial Celebration at
Mary Harriman Park on Saturday, October 11, 2014; and
WHEREAS, For the last century, the Village of Harriman has proudly
stood as a close-knit, safe and growing community in the southeast part
of the Town of Monroe, with a small part in the Town of Woodbury; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1914, this esteemed place was named after E. H.
Harriman, the former president of the Union Pacific railroad; and
WHEREAS, During decades of growth and change, the Village of Harriman
has continued its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its
residents, ensuring a safe, peaceful and educational climate for indi-
viduals and families, while working toward sustainability; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of the Village of Harriman's rich history and
enduring contribution to the State of New York, this Legislative Body is
proud to pay tribute to this spirited community upon the occasion of its
100th Anniversary; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Village of Harriman, recogniz-
ing the significance of the role it continues to play in the life of the
community of the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Mayor of the Village of Harriman, Stephen H. Welle.
