LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring David T. Griffith upon the occasion of
his retirement after 47 years of distinguished service to the Edith B.
Ford Memorial Library

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have devoted
themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their community
and the needs of its residents; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
David T. Griffith upon the occasion of his retirement after 47 years of
distinguished service to the Edith B. Ford Memorial Library, to be cele-
brated on Friday, August 15, 2014; and
WHEREAS, For the past 47 years, David T. Griffith rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the Edith B. Ford Memorial Library
of Ovid, New York; he has served as the Custodian nearly since the
Library moved to its present building and location in 1961; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, David T. Griffith served the Edith B.
Ford Memorial Library with intelligence and caring dedication, contin-
uously striving to effectively fulfill the duties of his position; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as Library Custodian, David T. Griffith
served with loyalty, honor and distinction; he became a Library Trustee
in 1976, and continued for 37 years until 2013; and
WHEREAS, Sincerely loved and greatly respected by all those with whom
he worked, David T. Griffith will be remembered for his honesty, integ-
rity, keen sense of duty and ability to show a unique grasp of human
problems in his official acts; and
WHEREAS, Active within his community, David T. Griffith served as the
Mayor of the Village of Ovid for many years; he was also involved with
the Ovid-Willard Lyons Club, and served as a Boy Scout Leader as well as
a Girl Scout Camp volunteer; and
WHEREAS, A longtime member of Ovid Federated Church, David T. Griffith
cheerfully donated his skills in electrical and plumbing work to many
village and town residents in need over the past six decades; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, the late Phyllis, with him through-
out have been his three children, Chris, Kevin and Tim, as well as his
five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom feel priv-
ileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Edith B. Ford Memorial Library,
David T. Griffith earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, it is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor David T. Griffith upon the occasion of his retirement after 47
years of distinguished service to the Edith B. Ford Memorial Library;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David T. Griffith.
