LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Firefighter Chuck Hammon upon the
occasion of his designation as 2013-2014 Employee of the Year by the
City of Batavia

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the great
State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good works
of those patriotic and civic-minded community members who dedicate their
lives and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes great pride in acknowledging
those esteemed individuals within the State of New York who distinguish
themselves in service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is pleased to commend Fire-
fighter Chuck Hammon upon the occasion of his designation as 2013-2014
Employee of the Year by the City of Batavia, New York; he was presented
this esteemed award at a meeting of the Batavia City Council in February
2014; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter Chuck Hammon earned this proud distinction for
consistently going "above and beyond" the expectations of a firefighter
and for working to grow the Batavia Fire Department's child safety seat
program; and
WHEREAS, Chuck Hammon, a resident of LeRoy, New York, is a proud
second-generation career firefighter; his father worked in the Auburn,
New York, fire department and was deputy chief in Batavia for eight
years, and his grandfather was a volunteer firefighter; and
WHEREAS, Chuck Hammon moved to Batavia when his father began to work
for the city; he graduated from Batavia High School in 2002 and,
inspired to pursue a career in the fire protection field, he earned a
fire protection technology degree at Corning Community College, and his
paramedic degree at Erie Community College; and
WHEREAS, Chuck Hammon worked on the city ambulance for one year before
the service was eliminated; he was soon hired as a firefighter; and
WHEREAS, Four years ago he was asked by Chief James Maxwell to lead
the Child Passenger Safety Program, which offers an indoor fitting
station and off-site car seat events, in an effort to educate and outfit
parents with the safest child seats possible; and
WHEREAS, Chuck Hammon has embraced the Child Passenger Safety Program
with enthusiasm, writing grants to cover program costs, and increasing
the amount of funding the program receives; and
WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of his duties and responsibil-
ities, as well as the assumption of additional responsibility, Chuck
Hammon's ongoing efforts and notable achievements have significantly
contributed to bettering the quality of life in his community; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to join with the City of
Batavia in expressing its sincere appreciation for Firefighter Chuck
Hammon for his exemplary service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter Chuck Hammon upon the occasion of his designation as
2013-2014 Employee of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Firefighter Chuck Hammon.
