LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Rabbi David M. Eligberg upon the occa-
sion of his installation as Rabbi at Temple Israel in Albany, New York
on May 2, 2014

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State are nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who commit their energies and
purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Rabbi David
M. Eligberg upon the occasion of his installation as Rabbi at Temple
Israel in Albany, New York on May 2, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi David M. Eligberg, born and raised in Montreal, Quebec,
was ordained in 1985, by the Jewish Theological Seminary; he holds a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Columbia University, a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Talmud from The Seminary College of Jewish
Studies, and a Master of Arts degree in Jewish Studies from the Jewish
Theological Seminary, as well as a Doctor of Hebrew Letters Honorus
Causa from the Jewish Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS, Prior to assuming the pulpit of Temple Israel, Rabbi David M.
Eligberg served as Rabbi and Principal of the Beit Rayim Synagogue and
Hebrew School in Thornhill, Ontario, Rabbi of Congregation B'Nai Tikvah
in North Brunswick, New Jersey, and Congregation Beth El in Levittown,
Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Since arriving at Temple Israel in 2011, Rabbi David M.
Eligberg has been a teacher and guide for those who wish to explore
meaningful lives according to Jewish tradition; holiday observances at
Temple Israel have been enhanced by his creative approach and his
encouragement of congregant participation; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi David M. Eligberg's adult education classes, ranging
from "Conservative Judaism: Yesterday and Tomorrow", the Book of Psalms,
Jewish Ethics regarding End of Life Issues have offered members a deeper
understanding of their rich heritage; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi David M. Eligberg is an active presence in the Albany
community, serving as Secretary of the Capital District Board of Rabbis,
and as a member of both the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York's
Israel Action Committee, and the Religion-Labor Coalition of New York
State, representing the New York Board of Rabbis; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi David M. Eligberg and his wife, Jodi, along with their
three children, Sarah, Yonatan and Miriam, have shared their Shabbat and
holiday celebrations, introducing many to a traditional Jewish home; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi David M. Eligberg brings to his ministry an overwhelm-
ing spirit of charity and compassion, acting from vision and enlight-
enment in conducting his administrative and spiritual duties, while
always displaying the highest standards of personal and professional
integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God always gives enlightenment,
guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and administers
abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal needs of all;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend them for the
edification of others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Rabbi David M. Eligberg upon the occasion of his installation as
Rabbi at Temple Israel in Albany, New York on May 2, 2014, noting his
unremitting and compassionate faith and his exemplary service to God,
man, and his community, and extending to him the heartfelt best wishes
for a future of continued purposeful success and well-being; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rabbi David M. Eligberg.
