LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Carol Allen upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Community Matters Award by United Way of
Sidney, New York
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors,
and community service are an example and inspiration to their
colleagues, friends, family, and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Carol Allen upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Community Matters Award by United Way of Sidney, New York to be cele-
brated at its 7th Annual meeting in Sidney, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is presented to an individual such as
Carol Allen who has provided significant input into the local United Way
and the Sidney community; and
WHEREAS, Since 2006, Carol Allen has served on the Board of Directors
of United Way of Sidney, and has been secretary for the past seven
years; she also co-chaired the Annual United Way campaign in both 2010
and 2013; and
WHEREAS, This hardworking woman is one of the driving forces behind
the success of the United Way of Sidney, and has helped make this worthy
organization an important asset to the Sidney community; and
WHEREAS, Carol Allen has been instrumental in the local community in
other capacities including serving as secretary for the Sidney Chamber
of Commerce from 2005 to 2013, where she helped coordinate their annual
dinner, and worked closely with all the chairmen on their annual events;
and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Carol Allen helped initiate the idea for the
Business Expo program at the Sidney Library, based on Dolly Parton's
Imagination Library program; and
WHEREAS, In recent years, Carol Allen has been active behind the
scenes in the development of the Sidney Senior Center; she is a member
of the Church of Christ in Sidney, where she teaches Children's Bible
classes twice weekly; and
WHEREAS, A former elementary teacher, Carol Allen taught adult educa-
tion courses, and worked at Keith Clark/At-a-Glance as a marketing
assistant; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Dave, and their
two daughters, Jennifer and Elizabeth, as well as eight grandchildren,
all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Carol Allen truly merits much recognition for her dedication
and caring for others, and for her sterling leadership in the United Way
of Sidney; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Carol Allen has stood
constant in dignity, good grace, and humor, earning the respect and
admiration of her colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Carol Allen has displayed throughout her
life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Carol Allen upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Community Matters Award by United Way of Sidney; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Carol Allen.
