LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Rural/Metro Medical Services of
Central New York upon the occasion of observing National Emergency
Medical Services Week, May 19-25, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those organizations within the State of New York which
provide vital emergency medical rescue services; and
WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Services Week is celebrated annually across
the Nation and this year's 40th Anniversary theme is "EMS: Dedicated.
For Life."; the observance recognizes the dedication and compassion of
the nation's Emergency Medical Services Providers; and
WHEREAS, Headquartered in Syracuse, New York, Rural/Metro Medical
Services is the lifeline to the Central New York community, serving
since 1953; the organization is an integral part of the region's health-
care delivery system, providing the area's only CAAS Accredited Ambu-
lance service and employing more than 300 dedicated professionals; and
WHEREAS, Rural/Metro Medical Services of Central New York achieved a
perfect score on its triennial reaccreditation survey for the Commission
on Accreditation of Ambulance Services in 2013; and
WHEREAS, Rural/Metro Medical Services of Central New York's crews are
ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week, responding to more than 70,000 calls each year; caring for
patients in Onondaga, Cayuga, Madison, Herkimer, Montgomery, and Scho-
harie Counties, along with the Town of Sullivan in Madison County, it is
the primary provider of ambulance services for various communities
throughout its six-county service area; and
WHEREAS, Rural/Metro Medical Services of Central New York works colla-
boratively with volunteer agencies and healthcare organizations to
provide a truly integrated approach to the emergency medical needs of
its region; it also funds the EMSupport Grant, administered by the
Central New York Community Foundation, which is designed to provide
organizations with funds for medical equipment and supplies; and
WHEREAS, Rural/Metro Medical Services of Central New York is the
region's largest professional Emergency Medical Services organization
and largest American Heart Association training center, teaching more
than 2,500 residents the lifesaving skill of CPR each year; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in deliberations to commend
Rural/Metro Medical Services of Central New York upon the occasion of
observing National Emergency Medical Services Week; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rural/Metro Medical Services of Central New York.
