LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring David Crawford upon the occasion of
being selected as the 2014 Distinguished Citizen of the Year by the
Columbia County Association in the City of New York
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, David Crawford has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor David Crawford
upon the occasion of being selected as the 2014 Distinguished Citizen of
the Year by the Columbia County Association in the City of New York, to
be celebrated on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Keens Steakhouse in Manhat-
tan; and
WHEREAS, The Columbia County Association in the City of New York was
founded in 1902 to bring together Columbia County and New York City
residents with common interests, including those from New York City who
had homes or businesses in Columbia County; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Germantown, New York, David Crawford grad-
uated from Clarkson University in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in Civil
Engineering, before working for American Electric Power Company Inc. for
nearly nine years; and
WHEREAS, When American Electric Power Company Inc. shuttered their New
York Office and relocated to Columbus, Ohio, David Crawford saw this as
the perfect opportunity to follow his dream and open his own business,
Crawford & Associates Engineering and Land Surveying, P.C. in 1992; and
WHEREAS, In the 22 years since Crawford & Associates formation, the
Hudson-based engineering and land-surveying business David Crawford
developed has grown to include two dozen talented engineers, scientists
and technicians with proficiency in a wide range of core disciplines;
and
WHEREAS, The company's portfolio boasts of partnerships with private,
public and non-profit agencies including the Dormitory Authority of New
York; the New York State Police; Columbia, Greene and Sullivan Counties;
the City of Hudson; the Towns of Livingston and New Baltimore; the
Columbia County Economic Development Corporation; and Taconic Farms
Research Center; and
WHEREAS, Not only does David Crawford successfully run his company, he
also finds time to serve as President of the Columbia Economic Develop-
ment Corporation, and has been involved in the Friends of Clermont, with
Columbia County Historical Society's board, and belongs to the Board of
Supervisors' Airport Committee; and
WHEREAS, David Crawford's dedication to improving the life of Columbia
County even led to his serving as President of the Columbia County Asso-
ciation in the City of New York from 2010-2011; and
WHEREAS, Described as a "very energetic businessman," David Crawford
credits his success to the inspiration of both his father and contractor
Harry Engelkirk, "a very smart man and a very good builder," who have
had homes featured in BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS magazine; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his family and friends, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his contin-
ued achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor David Crawford upon the occasion of being selected as the 2014
Distinguished Citizen of the Year by the Columbia County Association in
the City of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David Crawford.
