LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lucy Schmolka upon the occasion of being
selected as Westchester County's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lucy Schmolka
upon the occasion of being selected as Westchester County's 2014 Senior
Citizen of the Year in recognition of her outstanding contributions to
her community through her valuable and much appreciated volunteer work;
and
WHEREAS, Lucy Schmolka and her family have lived in Westchester County
since 1971; she enjoyed a successful career which focused on
health/community, and has always been a passionate volunteer, generously
dedicating her time as Scarsdale PTA President, member of the Village
Advisory Board and League of Women Voters, and President of White Plains
Hospital-Scarsdale Auxiliary; and
WHEREAS, Lucy Schmolka has made extraordinary contributions to the
Westchester Community as Coordinator of the Ambassador Program at White
Plains Hospital; she helped to establish the program in 2005, spending
countless hours and many months of planning to ensure a smooth and
successful program launch, and has led ever since; the program's volun-
teers facilitate individuals' access to health care, escorting people to
their destination, listening, problem-solving, and easing the stress of
hospital visits; the program began with eight volunteers and under Lucy
Schmolka's outstanding leadership, it has grown to 47 volunteers
contributing over 31,000 hours of caring service; and
WHEREAS, Lucy Schmolka is currently a Board member of White Plains
Hospital and Blythedale Children's Hospital, and a past member of the
Advisory Board Westchester County Office for Women and the Women's
Enterprise Development Center; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Lucy Schmolka's distinguished record
merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lucy Schmolka upon the occasion of being selected as Westchester
County's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lucy Schmolka.
