LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Doris Wolf of Waterloo, New York, upon
the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2014 Henry C. Welles
Award by the Waterloo Library and Historical Society
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Doris Wolf
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2014 Henry C.
Welles Award by the Waterloo Library and Historical Society; this auspi-
cious occasion will be celebrated at a wine and cheese reception on
Friday, May 23, 2014, at the Waterloo Library and Historical Society,
Waterloo, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Henry C. Welles Award was established in 2008 by the
Waterloo Library and Historical Society to honor a citizen of Waterloo
who, through tireless effort and many hours of uncompensated time, has
made Waterloo a better place to live, work, worship, understand and
enjoy; and
WHEREAS, A retired journalist with many accolades, Doris Wolf has
given not only of her time and energies but also of her competence,
intelligence and leadership and consequently has been designated for
special honor; she serves tirelessly on 16 different boards of directors
and volunteers for an astonishing variety of local programs, causes and
activities in her community; and
WHEREAS, Doris Wolf has contributed her time and talents to countless
civic and charitable endeavors over the years; she has devoted herself
to such worthy causes as Habitat for Humanity, Literacy Volunteers and
the Waterloo Celebrate Commemorate Committee, as well as Cornell Cooper-
ative Extension, where she served as a 4-H leader for 28 years; and
WHEREAS, In 1998, Doris Wolf became a Red Cross volunteer, serving as
local disaster action team captain, Armed Forces Emergency Services
liaison and public affairs liaison; she has ably responded to numerous
emergencies, including the 9/11 attacks, Wayne County ice storms, and
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman is the co-founder of Trevor's Gift, a
program which provides an estimated 135 backpacks of food to Waterloo
school children each weekend; and
WHEREAS, Doris Wolf is also a founding member of the Matilda Joslyn
Gage Foundation and the Finger Lakes Friends of the Women's Rights
National Historical Park; she volunteers weekly in the summer at the
M'Clintock House in Waterloo, and co-edited the book, HISTORY OF WATER-
LOO, 1948 TO 2002; and
WHEREAS, A steadfast supporter of our Nation's troops, Doris Wolf has
adopted a platoon from Fort Drum, sending weekly packages of snacks,
toiletries, magazines and other items to soldiers on overseas deploy-
ments; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman has received numerous awards in recog-
nition of her outstanding service, including the Herbert Wurstner Volun-
teer of the Year Award from the Seneca County United Way and the Inter-
national Award from the National 4-H Council; furthermore, she was twice
named Citizen of the Year by the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce, and
was recognized as a Woman of Distinction by the New York State Senate;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Doris Wolf has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Walter, and their
two daughters, Terri-Lynn and Patricia, as well as five grandchildren,
all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Doris Wolf has displayed throughout
her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Doris Wolf upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2014 Henry C. Welles Award by the Waterloo Library and Historical
Society; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Doris Wolf.
