LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Reverend Philip S. Windsor upon
the occasion of his retirement after 14 years of faithful service to
Auburn Westminster Presbyterian Church and its parishioners
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend The Reverend
Philip S. Windsor upon the occasion of his retirement after 14 years of
faithful service to Auburn Westminster Presbyterian Church and its
parishioners; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Philip S. Windsor will be honored at a dinner on
Friday, May 23, 2014; he will preach his last sermon at Auburn Westmin-
ster Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 25, 2014, before officially
retiring on Saturday, May 31, 2014; and
WHEREAS, A native of Long Island, Philip S. Windsor graduated in 1967
from John Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, before
receiving his Master of Divinity degree from Gordon Conwell Theological
Seminary in 1970; and
WHEREAS, He was ordained as a Presbyterian pastor on November 29,
1970; for the past 44 years, Reverend Philip S. Windsor has served
churches in Milroy, Indiana, Middletown, Iowa, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa
before relocating to Auburn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Philip S. Windsor began work at Auburn Westminster
Presbyterian Church on April 1, 2000; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his pastoral responsibilities, Reverend Philip
S. Windsor served on the YMCA board, and remains active on the YMCA Camp
Committee; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man was the recipient of the Cayuga County
NAACP Millennium Award in 2008, and has also been active on the Adams
Piano Series Committee and the Early Childhood Committee (ABC); further-
more, he was instrumental in restarting the Interfaith Thanksgiving
Service after 9/11 and has helped promote interfaith activities in the
community; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Philip S. Windsor's legacy at Auburn Westminster
Presbyterian Church includes providing a welcoming church with progres-
sive theology and traditional worship, advancing a Christian hospitality
to people of all sexual orientations, and making Westminster a community
center for downtown Auburn; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Diane, and their
three children, David, Faith and Elizabeth, as well as six grandchil-
dren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice
in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, In retirement, Reverend Philip S. Windsor will enjoy sailing,
kayaking, tennis, racquetball, reading, woodworking, hiking, history,
and traveling; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Philip S. Windsor has brought to his ministry an
overwhelming spirit of charity and compassion, acting from vision and
enlightenment in conducting his administrative and spiritual duties,
while always displaying the highest standards of personal and profes-
sional integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given enlightenment,
guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and has adminis-
tered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal needs of
all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Reverend Philip S. Windsor upon the occasion of his retire-
ment after 14 years of faithful service to Auburn Westminster Presbyte-
rian Church and its parishioners, noting his unremitting and compassion-
ate faith and his exemplary service to God, man, and his community, and
extending to him the heartfelt best wishes of this Legislative Body for
a future of purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Reverend Philip S. Windsor.
