LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Father Douglas Taylor-Weiss upon the
occasion of his retirement after more than 30 years of distinguished
service in the Priesthood
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Father Douglas Taylor-Weiss upon the occasion of his retirement after
more than 30 years of distinguished service in ministry, to be cele-
brated with a Retirement Party in his honor on Sunday, April 27, 2014;
and
WHEREAS, Born June 1, 1956, Douglas Taylor-Weiss holds a Master's
degree in Theological Studies and a Doctor of Ministry which he earned
at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary; he began his illustrious career
at St. Leonard's House as a Night House Manager where he counseled
ex-convicts; and
WHEREAS, A lecturer in Theology at Loyola University from 1981 to
1983, Father Douglas Taylor-Weiss was ordained a Deacon on June 11,
1983, and six months later he was ordained to the Priesthood on December
17, 1983; and
WHEREAS, After more than three decades in the Priesthood, Father Doug-
las Taylor-Weiss will retire from the esteemed title of Pastor of The
Episcopal Church of Saints & John in Auburn, New York, a position he has
held since August of 1998; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his loving wife, Debra, and
their two beautiful children, Zenobia Ruth and Esther Marie, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, Father Douglas Taylor-Weiss has brought to his ministry an
overwhelming spirit of charity and compassion, acting from vision and
enlightenment in conducting his administrative and spiritual duties,
while always displaying the highest standards of personal and profes-
sional integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given enlightenment,
guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and has adminis-
tered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal needs of
all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Father Douglas Taylor-Weiss upon the occasion of his retire-
ment after more than 30 years of distinguished service in the Priest-
hood, noting his unremitting and compassionate faith and his exemplary
service to God, man, and his community, and extending to him the heart-
felt best wishes of this Legislative Body for a future of purposeful
success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Father Douglas Taylor-Weiss.
