LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Gerald Jacobowitz for his distin-
guished service after 50 years of practicing law
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Gerald Jacobowitz for his distinguished service after 50 years of prac-
ticing law; he will be honored at a reception held on Thursday, June 5,
2014, at the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Goshen, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Gerald Jacobowitz has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, A senior partner with Jacobowitz & Gubits, LLP, Gerald Jaco-
bowitz is a graduate of Colgate University, and received his Juris
Doctor degree from the New York University School of Law, where he was a
John Ben Snow Root Tilden Scholar; he was admitted to the New York State
Bar in 1959; and
WHEREAS, For half a century, Gerald Jacobowitz has admirably practiced
law in Walden, New York, and its surrounding communities; he has helped
bring to fruition numerous successful projects on behalf of his clients,
including the Harriman Business Park, Wind Ridge Village, and Harriman
Hills; in addition, he has served as village and town attorney for muni-
cipalities throughout the Hudson Valley; and
WHEREAS, Gerald Jacobowitz has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Deeply committed to serving his community, Gerald Jacobowitz
is the founding director of Orange County Pro-Bono Legal Services and is
the founder and past president of the Community Foundation of Orange and
Sullivan; he currently serves as a director of the Meyer and Lillian
Jacobowitz Charitable Foundation and is also a member of the Orange
County Planning Board; and
WHEREAS, Gerald Jacobowitz has also displayed a strong dedication to
helping others through his work as vice president/director of Families
First New York, and his membership in Hudson Valley Pattern for
Progress; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Gerald Jacobowitz has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which this remarkable man has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Gerald Jacobowitz for his distinguished service after 50 years
of practicing law; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gerald Jacobowitz.
