LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Queens Botanical Garden upon the
occasion of hosting its 19th Annual Rose Gala on June 12, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent is to promote conservation education and to encourage the appre-
ciation and understanding of the environment as a whole; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Queens
Botanical Garden upon the occasion of hosting its 19th Annual Rose Gala
commemorating the 1939 and 1964 World's Fairs to be celebrated on Thurs-
day, June 12, 2014; and
WHEREAS, This year, the Queens Botanical Garden will pay special
recognition to its 2014 Gala Honorees for their long-standing support
and commitment to not only the Garden but to the entire Queens communi-
ty;the honorees include: Cord Meyer Development and George S. Meyer and
the Meyer Family; and
WHEREAS, The Queens Botanical Garden is an urban oasis where people,
plants and cultures are celebrated through inspiring gardens, innovative
educational programs and demonstrations of environmental stewardship;
and
WHEREAS, During the school year, workshops are presented to more than
17,000 school children through class visits to the Garden; the gardens
are naturally the main reason visitors come to the Queens Botanical
Garden, and its horticulture staff works devotedly to maintain and
improve the plant displays; and
WHEREAS, Collections include a Fragrance Walk, Green Roof, Pinctum,
Bee Garden, plus Woodland and Wetland Gardens and an Herb Garden; its
Rose Garden is a constant delight to visitors, as is the new Parking
Garden which is an innovative space with native plants, permeable pavers
and other features that manage storm water onsite and help to offset
urban heat-island effect; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Queens Botanical Garden is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its members, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeav-
ors on behalf of the Garden and the population it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those organ-
izations which enhance the quality of life in their community and have
shown a long and sustained commitment to the maintenance of high stand-
ards, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Queens Botanical Garden upon the occasion of hosting its
19th Annual Rose Gala commemorating the 1939 and 1964 World's Fairs to
be held on June 12, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Queens Botanical Garden.
