LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Thomas
Reynolds Center for Special Education and After-School Programs, to be
celebrated on June 21, 2013
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those organizations committed to enhancing the quality of
education in the State of New York, enabling our schools to set and meet
standards for excellence in academic achievement for all students; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 10th Anniversary of the Thomas Reynolds Center for Special
Education and After-School Programs, to be celebrated on Friday, June
21, 2013, at the Daemen Center for Visual & Performing Arts, Daemen
College, Amherst, New York; and
WHEREAS, During the celebration, the Thomas Reynolds Center for
Special Education and After-School Programs will honor its namesake and
benefactor, the Honorable Thomas M. Reynolds, and memorialize the late
Dr. Patrick Hartwick for his service and dedication to the Center; and
WHEREAS, Founded at Daemen College in 2003 through federal funding,
the Thomas Reynolds Center for Special Education and After-School
Programs provides a rich learning and teaching environment where scien-
tifically-based research methods are used to assist students at risk of
academic failure, as well as students with learning disabilities attend-
ing schools in Buffalo and Amherst; and
WHEREAS, Over its luminous ten-year history, the Thomas Reynolds
Center for Special Education and After-School Programs has not only
provided invaluable service to the many young students who use the
program, it also prepares graduate teacher candidates to use research-
based learning strategies in their work with students, thereby enhancing
the capacity of school districts across this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to now record its
recognition and appreciation in honoring this outstanding educational
organization, whose decade-long dedication and accomplishments have been
instrumental in empowering the most vulnerable students, and developing
academic excellence across the spectrum of education; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Thomas Reynolds Center for
Special Education and After-School Programs, and to wish it continued
success in its laudable mission; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Thomas Reynolds Center for Special Education and After-
School Programs.
