LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating William T. Newlin upon the occa-
sion of his retirement after many years of distinguished service to
Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement House

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, William T. Newlin has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate William
T. Newlin upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of
distinguished service to Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement House;
and
WHEREAS, William T. Newlin has served as Executive Director of Jacob
A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement House for more than 20 years; and
WHEREAS, The Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement House provides a
welcoming place where community members have the opportunity to partic-
ipate in services and activities to improve their lives, some of which
include, education, housing, health care, employment opportunities,
recreation, and the arts; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, William T. Newlin has overseen a large
increase in the number of participants and staff, an expansion from one
main site to five, and the implementation of innovative technology,
evaluation and arts programs; and
WHEREAS, An essential part of carrying out the mission of the Jacob A.
Riis Neighborhood Settlement House, William T. Newlin has positively
impacted the lives of many people; and
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and in the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those civic-minded community members who dedicate their lives
and career to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberation to
congratulate William T. Newlin upon the occasion of his retirement after
many years of distinguished service to Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood
Settlement House; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to William T. Newlin.
