LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to declare
November 2013, as Veterans Remembrance Month in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
praise organizations of true purpose and worthy accomplishment whose
dedication and commitment to service, patriotism, and fellowship merit
the highest commendation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to memorialize Governor
Andrew M. Cuomo to declare November 2013, as Veterans Remembrance Month
in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in New York City in 1868, the Benevolent and Protec-
tive Order of Elks (B.P.O.E.) of the United States of America is one of
the oldest, largest, and most active fraternal organizations in the
country; today it proudly numbers nearly one million men and women, as
members in more than 2,000 lodges nationally, who share a commitment to
its basic principles; and
WHEREAS, The principles of the Elks are the practice of charity,
justice, brotherly love and fidelity; the promotion of the welfare and
the enhancement of the happiness of its members; the quickening of the
spirit of American patriotism and the cultivation of good fellowship,
and to serve our veterans; and
WHEREAS, The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks has a long histo-
ry of service to our veterans, instituting the first G.I. Loan program
for returning soldiers after World War I, and sponsors programs promot-
ing American patriotism, and scholarship and support programs for our
veterans; and
WHEREAS, The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is extremely
proud of the United States, the American flag, and our veterans, and in
November, we will observe Veterans Day, and pay just tribute to our
brave servicemen and women and their families; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to declare November 2013 as Veter-
ans Remembrance Month in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York.
