LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Roberta M. Updaw upon the occasion of
being named 2013 Citizen of the Year by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Roberta M. Updaw has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Roberta M.
Updaw upon the occasion of being named 2013 Citizen of the Year by the
Ontario Chamber of Commerce, to be celebrated at its Annual Awards
Dinner on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at The Brookwoods Golf Club,
Ontario, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Citizen of the Year Award is given to an individual who
has made outstanding contributions to the betterment of the entire
Ontario community; and
WHEREAS, For more than 65 years Roberta M. Updaw has been a generous,
energetic and creative presence throughout her community, selflessly
serving her church, the local school district, her family and multiple
non-profit organizations, civic groups and fraternal organizations; and
WHEREAS, Roberta M. Updaw worked in the Wayne Central School District
for 36 years; she was a vocal and instrumental teacher, as well as a
music administrator; and
WHEREAS, Roberta M. Updaw's luminous guidance provided leadership and
inspiration to teachers, students, their parents, and the community at
large; and
WHEREAS, Roberta M. Updaw actively promoted and demonstrated the
importance of music and culture through creating diverse opportunities
for musical enrichment, including concerts, recitals, festivals, compe-
titions, and visits by top instrumentalists and vocalists; with fore-
thought and wisdom, she developed a means to institutionalize support
for music and culture through grant funding and other development
approaches, impacting the Ontario community for generations to come; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Roberta M. Updaw has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Roberta M. Updaw has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Roberta M. Updaw upon the occasion of being named 2013 Citizen of
the Year by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Roberta M. Updaw.
