LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Radisson
Community Association
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
organizations that contribute to the improvement and enhancement of the
quality of life in the communities they represent; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to hereby
recognize and commend the Radisson Community Association, and the resi-
dents of Radisson, upon the occasion of its 40th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The neighborhood of Radisson in the Town of Lysander, New
York, remains one of the most vibrant areas of the State, mainly because
of the dedicated residents who remain involved in their community; and
WHEREAS, Radisson is a planned unit housing development community that
provides nearly 3,500 homes for up to 10,000 residents; it is also nota-
ble for containing a large corporate park; and
WHEREAS, Covering an area of more than 4.5 square miles, Radisson is
located 12 miles northwest of the City of Syracuse and one mile east of
the Village of Baldwinsville, New York; it is bordered on the east by
the Seneca River, on the north and west by New York State Wildlife
Management Area, and on the south by State Route 31; and
WHEREAS, The name Radisson is derived from a mid-17th Century French
explorer of the Syracuse area, Pierre Esprit Radisson; he also co-found-
ed the Hudson Bay Company; and
WHEREAS, The Radisson site was purchased in 1969, by the New York
State Urban Development Corporation (UDC), which was Radisson's develop-
er at the time; previous owners included the Astor Estate of England and
the United States Government, which used the area as a site for World
War II artillery; and
WHEREAS, Among the special services that Radisson provides for its
residents and for which it is especially known are: a community newslet-
ter RADISSON REFLECTIONS, a Yard Waste Collection and Recycling Program,
a nursery school, aquatics and swimming lessons, summer concerts,
special events for seniors, youth and children, and recreational options
for all residents, such as golf and tennis; and
WHEREAS, Radisson also offers many recreational options for those who
live both within and outside of its boundaries; among them are: Aspen
House Community Center, Oberon Pool, tennis courts, basketball courts,
neighborhood parks, baseball fields, soccer fields, tot-lots, community
gardens, 10 miles of walkways, 5 miles of cross-country ski trails, and
numerous open spaces; and
WHEREAS, Although not officially affiliated with the Radisson Communi-
ty Association, the Radisson Greens Golf Course, the Lysander-Radisson
Ice Arena and the Town of Lysander Town Offices complement the communi-
ty's recreational services and programs; and
WHEREAS, The Radisson Community Association, Inc. (RCA) is a not-for-
profit corporation formed for the primary purpose of promoting the
health, safety, welfare, education, recreation, and cultural enrichment
of the owners/members and residents of Radisson; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, the Radisson Community Association is committed
to preserve, protect and enhance certain lands and facilities set aside
for the common use and enjoyment of the owners/members and residents of
the community; and
WHEREAS, The Radisson Community Association is governed by an elected
Board of Directors whose primary role is to establish policies; a full-
time professional staff is employed to carry out these policies and
manage day-to-day operations and affairs of the corporation; volunteer
committees are also an integral part of the Association and its Board;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize and celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Radisson Community
Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Vinquist, President of the Board of Directors, and Lynn
Tanner, Executive Director of the Radisson Community Association.
