LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Paul J.Q. Lee, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community, on January 18, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body mourns the death of Paul J.Q.
Lee, of Chinatown, New York, who died on January 18, 2014, at the age of
63; and
WHEREAS, An activist, businessman, and actor, Paul J.Q. Lee distin-
guished himself in his profession and by his sincere dedication and
substantial contribution to the welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Paul J.Q. Lee was committed to the well-being of his communi-
ty and was a passionate advocate on many local issues; and
WHEAREAS, Born and raised in Chinatown, Paul J.Q. Lee's involvement
began via his family business, Quong Yuen Shing & Co. on Mott Street, an
imported goods store opened in 1891 by his grandfather; by the time it
closed in 2003, the store had become more of a community center; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the arts as well, Paul J.Q. Lee had more than a
dozen film credits, and had small roles in such movies as "Big Trouble
in Little China," and "Big"; he also developed a reputation as a go-to
location scout for film companies looking to shoot in Chinatown; and
WHEREAS, For the last decade of his life, Paul J.Q. Lee worked as a
community liaison for the New York City Housing Authority, working to
ensure that residents in New York City public housing received the
services they needed; and
WHEREAS, Paul J.Q. Lee's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; he will be remembered for his generosity, kind-
ness, and tireless efforts on behalf of the diverse members in his
community; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his wife of 29 years, Janny Lee, Paul J.Q. Lee
is survived by his older sister, Patricia Farley, and younger brother,
Warren Lee; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Paul J.Q. Lee leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Paul J.Q. Lee; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Paul J.Q. Lee.
