LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Sister Maureen Denn, CSJ, upon the
occasion of being named Grand Marshal of the 2014 Utica St. Patrick's
Day Parade, to be held on March 15, 2014

WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and highlights the many
contributions and historical accomplishments of the Irish community in
this diverse land; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those distinguished citizens of the State of New York who
devote their lifework and civic endeavor in service to their community,
adding to the character and quality of life for all citizens; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Sister
Maureen Denn, CSJ, upon the occasion of being named Grand Marshal of the
2014 Utica St. Patrick's Day Parade, to be held on March 15, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Sister Maureen Denn was selected as this year's Grand Marshal
at the Annual Halfway to the Great American Irish Festival Hooley at
Hart's Inn in Whitesboro, New York, on Sunday, January 26, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Sister Maureen Denn is well-known throughout the Utica, New
York, community for her selfless compassion and desire to better the
lives of those in need; for nearly 30 years she lent spiritual comfort,
companionship, and a sympathetic ear to hospital patients as chaplain at
Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in Utica; and
WHEREAS, Of proud Irish descent, Sister Maureen Denn grew up listening
to her mother tell stories of her grandmother who came from County
Clare, and to her father's tales of his youth spent on "The Green Road";
and
WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities
and generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage
of the Irish people throughout these United States; and
WHEREAS, The St. Patrick's Day Parade celebrates the spirit, purity
and strength of Irish culture and its fine traditions; and
WHEREAS, Sister Maureen Denn is a fitting choice for Grand Marshal of
the Utica St. Patrick's Day Parade; she embodies the spirit as well as
the cherished ideals and values of this venerable community, this great
State and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sister Maureen Denn, CSJ, upon the occasion of being named Grand
Marshal of the 2014 Utica St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sister Maureen Denn.
